Astronomy for the public
With the web pages " Astronomie in Deutschland " the German Astronomical Society addresses all people interested in astronomy. Collected there is information for the general public, pupils but also students. The pages summarize many aspects of astronomy in Germany across institutes and present not only research institutions, but also the places where astronomy can be experienced, such as planetariums and public observatories. A special focus is on research and education in this fascinating field in Germany. The pages can be reached at http://www.astronomie-in-deutschland.de. The websites offer help and an introduction to all those who would like to learn more about astronomy: future students, but also parents and teachers who would like to bring the subject closer to children.
The idea for the project goes back to the International Year of Astronomy in 2009 (IYA2009), in the wake of which the development of the site was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The portal was initially hosted by Welt der Physik. Since 2022, the German Astronomical Society is solely responsible for the content as well as the technical side and is supported by experts from science and public relations of the astronomical institutes and facilities in Germany.
