Junge AG invites to winter school
After the great success of the first Junge AG summer school back in June 2022, the AG is happy to announce that the format will be continued with the Junge AG winter school. The first edition of the winter school will take place in Heidelberg on the 26th and 27th of November 2022. The Haus der Astronomie will host the school. "Following the successful Junge AG summer school and very positive feedback received, we are delighted to continue with a winter school in Heidelberg“ says Dr. Markus Hundertmark, initiator of the program and head of the organizing committee.
Professor Michael Kramer, President of the German Astronomical Society, says: "The Winter School invites students to learn about and discuss diverse topics in astronomy, share their knowledge and experiences, and have the opportunity to get to know different astronomical research institutions in Germany. We are particularly grateful to the Haus der Astronomie in Heidelberg to host the event.“ The program includes a talk about job opportunities by Caroline Herschel medalist Prof. Dr. Eva Grebel, an introduction to ADQL and TAP, as well as talks given by the participants during the second edition of the in-person AG colloquium. Participants willing to give a talk as part of the colloquium series will be awarded with a free AG-membership for one year. Additionally, there will be a guided tour of the State observatory and everyone can visit the Heidelberg castle as part of the meetings social events. There will also be time to exchange ideas for the future of the Junge AG.
All students, PhD candidates and early post docs, who are AG members, are eligible to apply. A filled out application of membership, already qualifies to apply for the school (you can find more information here). The winter school offers 30 spots for participants, which will be chosen from all applicants in order to reflect a geographically and diverse representation of participants.
Travel costs and accommodation will be partially covered by the AG with travel grants of up to 200€. Applicants can submit a filled out travel grant form upon registration.
In order to register, send an email to jag@astronomische-gesellschaft.de by November 11th, 12pm, including your name, current affiliation, position (for example first year PhD student) and a short motivation why you want to participate.
Applicants will be informed shortly afterwards and all participants are encouraged to prepare two slides on themselves and their work for an introduction session.
Further information concerning organizational details and COVID19 regulations will follow in due time.
