Band 15 der alljährlich erscheinenden Reihe über die neuesten wissenschaftlichen Entwicklungen und Fortschritte in Astronomie und Astrophysik enthält 14 Übersichtsvorträge. Diese wurden anlässlich des Joint European and National Astronomical Meeting, JENAM 2001, in München gehalten. Unter anderem erhält der Leser eine Einführung in die Vorlesung von Keiichi Kodaira über makro- und mikrophysikalischen Untersuchung benachbarter Galaxien. Der Japaner wurde im Jahr 2001 für seine Leistungen mit der Karl-Schwarzschild-Medaille ausgezeichnet. Weitere Beiträge befassen sich mit den neuesten Resultaten bei der Suche nach Planeten außerhalb des Sonnensystems, Entwicklung von Sternen und Galaxien, der Physik aktiver galaktischer Zentren sowie den aktuellen Technologien auf dem Gebiet der Teleskope und Sensoren für verschiedene Wellenlängenbereiche.
