The Message of the Angles - Astrometry from 1798 to 1998
Proceedings of the International Spring Meeting of the Astronomische Gesellschaft, Gotha, May 11-15, 1998, commemorating the first meeting of astronomers at the Seeberg observatory 200 years ago
Astrometry experienced a great era around 1800 and has now received fresh impetus from the first precise satellite measurements of large celestial angles. The book attempts to demonstrate the continuity of this branch of science between the past, the present and the future. In addition to historical topics it therefore covers the combined use of old and new observations, the results of the satellite Hipparcos and plans for future astrometric satellites.
Texts mainly in English, partly in French or German.
