Gravitational Waves: From Detection to Data Analysis with Machine Learning
Ann-Kristin Malz
Royal Holloway University of London
Gravitational wave astronomy is revolutionising our understanding of the universe, enabling the direct observation of cosmic events such as black hole mergers and neutron star collisions. This talk provides an overview of the physics of gravitational waves, the interferometric detectors used to measure them, and the challenges inherent in extracting weak signals from noisy data. I will present aspects of my research on data analysis techniques used in gravitational wave astronomy, with a particular focus on the role of machine learning.
